National Leaders of Governance

National Leaders of Governance (‘NLGs’) are experienced and effective chairs of governing boards who use their skills, knowledge and experience to provide coaching and mentoring support to other Chairs in order to help drive up standards of governance. They were originally appointed by the National College for Teaching and Learning and are now directly accountable to the DfE.

NLGs are expected to provide effective support to at least one school per year – via telephone, email or in person. After providing an initial 5 days’ support without any cost, they may charge for further support at a rate to be agreed locally.
